The law enforcement officer in Odesa demanded money from drivers who were driving during the curfew. However, the dealer was caught red-handed and detained, and he faces imprisonment.

This was reported by the Odesa regional prosecutor's office.

Details of the case

The law enforcement officer established an illegal scheme to extort bribes from taxi drivers for unhindered movement around the city during the curfew. For a weekly fee of 100 US dollars from each car, the police officer promised not to interfere with their movement. In particular, he guaranteed the coordination of the 'clients' vehicle lists with the management, warnings about the locations of checkpoints and patrols, as well as influence on colleagues in case of a stop.

During the investigation, the receipt of 2500 US dollars by the suspect was documented. After the transfer of the next part of the funds, he was detained.

What punishment awaits

The suspect has been informed of suspicion under part 3 of article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion and receipt of unlawful benefits). He faces 5 to 10 years of imprisonment.

Recall that recently we wrote about an Odesa military man who threatened teenagers with murder. And also about a man who threw a grenade into a neighbor's yard.
