From the Odesa region, an attempt was made to illegally export jewelry abroad, some of which are genuine archaeological treasures recognized as cultural values. This concerns a necklace, parts of which date back to the 1st-12th centuries AD.

Details of the case
The customs officers discovered the jewelry during an inspection of an international postal parcel that was sent from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi to Germany. The sender declared the contents of the parcel as costume jewelry.
The customs officers suspected something was amiss and forwarded the necklace for examination to the National Museum of History of Ukraine. The results shocked even the experts: 16 out of 35 beads are authentic artifacts from the 1st to 12th centuries and are archaeological items that belong to cultural values. Similar items are known from the ancient and Chernyakhiv monuments of the early Rus era. They are predominantly made of colored glass.
What threatens the sender
A protocol for violating customs regulations has been drawn up against the sender under Article 473 of the Customs Code of Ukraine (The sending of prohibited goods across the customs border in international postal and express shipments). According to the sanction of this article, all the necklaces will be seized.
