Case details
In June of last year, a woman working as a caregiver at a preschool left comments under a post on Facebook, in which she called representatives of the OCU schismatics, servants of the devil, and antichrists. She also stated that such religious figures would disappear like dew in the sun.
Court ruling
During the court session, the woman stated that she did not intend to offend believers or incite religious hatred. The court found her guilty and imposed a fine of 5,100 hryvnias. Additionally, she would have to pay over 14 thousand hryvnias as compensation for court costs, including for the expertise. For now, this verdict can be appealed.
It is also worth mentioning that the company that provided unlicensed software to external intelligence was fined for violating contract conditions.
The events that took place indicate that Ukrainian courts are taking decisive measures to combat religious intolerance and negative expressions on social media. The imposition of a fine for offending religious feelings serves as a warning to other Internet users about the necessity of adhering to generally accepted norms of communication and respecting the beliefs of others.Read also
