In Ukraine, there will be a shortage of over 500 thousand workers this year: who are we talking about.

In 2025, Ukraine will face a shortage of more than half a million qualified workers, which will become a serious problem for the national economy. The biggest deficit will be among specialists in technical fields and skilled trades. This was stated on January 11 by the president of the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine, Oleksiy Miroshnichenko.
He noted that the lack of qualified personnel is already significantly affecting wage dynamics, which raises questions among economists in the context of GDP growth.
'GDP is growing by 4%, while wages are increasing by 14%. Thus, wage growth should be greater than the growth of prices and GDP, but not in such proportions,' Miroshnichenko said.
Another important aspect is the competition between public and private sectors. Public institutions offer stability, but the private sector is willing to pay more to attract professionals. According to Miroshnichenko, this leads to an increase in staff turnover and intensified competition for qualified specialists.
He also emphasized several key factors affecting the situation:
- Emigration: After the start of the full-scale war and economic crisis, many Ukrainians moved to Europe in search of higher wages.
- Demographic decline: The decrease in the working-age population exacerbates the labor shortage.
- Low popularity of skilled trades: Young people are increasingly disinterested in technical and skilled trades, leading to an imbalance in the labor market.
Recall that since 2022, Polish employers have begun changing working conditions due to the insufficient number of Ukrainian men. Moreover, Poland is attracting more people from Asia and Africa.
By the way, of the nearly 780 thousand Ukrainians working in Poland, 406.5 thousand are men and 372.7 thousand are women. Most often, people aged 30-44 work in Poland.
