The NBU made an important statement about the future of cash in Ukraine.

The National Bank does not plan to abandon cash after the introduction of e-hryvnia
The National Bank of Ukraine does not intend to abandon cash even after the introduction of the electronic hryvnia, stated NBU Deputy Chairman Oleksiy Shaban. He emphasized this in a column for the publication 'Economic Truth'.
'The National Bank is not even considering abandoning cash', - emphasized Shaban.
According to Shaban, a complete refusal of cash in Ukraine is impossible, especially in conditions of martial law. Citizens need to have quick access to cash to meet their basic needs, especially during blackouts and shelling.
The e-hryvnia will only be an additional payment tool along with cash and non-cash funds. People will be able to choose which form of hryvnia to use for payments.
The e-hryvnia will allow transfers between individuals, pay for goods and services, make payments to the state, and receive salaries and social benefits.
The NBU has already begun preparations for a pilot project to implement the e-hryvnia according to DLT technology in an open environment with real users. A final decision on the large-scale launch of the electronic hryvnia has yet to be made.
