According to Reuters, the death toll from the devastating earthquake in Myanmar stands at 3354. In addition, 4850 people have been injured, and 220 are missing.
Significant attention to the situation has been given by the UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher. He spent Friday evening in Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city, which is located near the earthquake's epicenter. At the meeting, Fletcher stated that humanitarian and community groups have shown courage, skill, and determination in responding to this disaster.
Many have lost everything themselves, but continued to walk to support those who survived
It is worth noting that the UN Human Rights High Commissioner has stated that the military junta in Myanmar restricts aid supply to areas where the population does not support its rule.
On April 7, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck the country. This earthquake was the strongest in the last hundred years in Myanmar and caused destruction of both ancient pagodas and modern buildings.
According to the UN, the humanitarian situation in the country was critical even before the earthquake.
