U.S. President Donald Trump wants to initiate talks with Russia and China regarding nuclear weapon control. His goal is to agree on halving the defense budgets of these countries.
Trump has expressed frustration over U.S. spending on modernizing nuclear forces, and he wants his opponents to commit to reducing their expenditures.
'We don't need to create new nuclear weapons, we already have plenty of them. We can destroy the world 50 or even 100 times. But we keep creating new nuclear weapons, and other countries are also making their own,' Trump said.
'We are spending a huge amount of money that could be used for other, more productive things,' he added.
Despite the significant amount of nuclear arms that the U.S. and Russia possess, Trump believes that China will catch up with them in the ability to inflict nuclear devastation 'within five to six years.'
