Noise Proves Nothing, or How VAKS "Grounded" NABU and SAP in the Case of "Smugglers".

At the conference "5 Years of VAKS - From Idea to Capability," the director of NABU spoke about how the anti-corruption system satisfies the public demand for justice, but some NABU detectives, by their actions, violate this demand.
In April this year, NABU detectives reported the arrest of the suspects in the smuggling case at the Chernivtsi customs. The arrest process took five months, and now lawyers and suspects have taken NABU and SAP to court, and they are resisting.
Previously, we considered a case regarding the approval of a plea agreement in a criminal proceeding. The basis for this agreement was the suspect's desire to provide information about other suspects in the case. However, VAKS decided not to approve this agreement.
NABU and SAP appealed to VAKS to extend the pre-trial investigation period from five months to eight, but VAKS refused. Now NABU and SAP again asked to extend the period to twelve months.
VAKS refused to approve the plea agreement but extended the pre-trial investigation period by two weeks. The further actions of detectives and prosecutors are still unknown.
