Rubio calmed European allies and revealed the true purpose of the meeting with the Russians.

After a meeting with the Russian delegation to discuss the war in Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted a change in relations with Russia and emphasized the possibility of partnership with the Russians.
However, later Rubio reassured European allies, stating that these negotiations do not signify a sudden shift in American policy towards Russia.
According to Rubio, this was the first step towards verifying Russia's intentions regarding a potential agreement.
However, European officials remained skeptical about these statements, especially after the recent improvement in relations between the U.S. and Russia.
Rubio also assured European diplomats that the U.S. does not plan to impose terms of an agreement with Russia on Ukraine and Europe, but the U.S. will not lift sanctions against Russia without significant changes in its behavior.
In turn, President Trump stated that Ukraine is at war, which raised concerns. 'Even a mediocre mediator could resolve this without losing significant territory,' Trump said.
In response to such statements, French President Macron is planning to hold an emergency meeting to develop a strategy for ensuring European security.
Rubio explained that Ukraine and European partners were not involved in the discussions due to the focus on bilateral issues between the U.S. and Russia, including discussions on removing restrictions on embassy operations.
The Secretary of State called on allies for unity and promised to keep them informed, while acknowledging that it is still necessary to verify Russia's intentions regarding an agreement.
It was also reported that Trump's statements regarding Zelensky impress even the Kremlin.
