Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that he officially receives one UAE dirham per year, or $0.27. This information was published by the French publication Le Monde. Despite the modest size of his earnings, Durov's fortune is estimated at $9 to $15.5 billion.
During the interrogation in France, Durov, who was detained, named his annual income as one UAE dirham or 27 US cents. This surprised the investigators, writes Le Monde.
According to the publication, Pavel Durov has equity capital in Telegram, which is valued at $30 billion. In addition, he received 300 million euros for selling his shares in VKontakte in 2014.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Durov admitted that his messenger has not yet turned a profit. Nevertheless, the entrepreneur's personal fortune is estimated at $9 to $15.5 billion.
Legislative bodies accused Durov of six crimes, including administering a platform for illegal transactions and providing illegal cryptographic services. After his detention, Telegram began cooperating with investigators in France and responding to law enforcement inquiries.
