OpenAI accuses Chinese startups of utilizing the developments of American companies.

OpenAI states that Chinese companies continuously use their American competitors to improve their artificial intelligence models. This was reported by Reuters.
«As artificial intelligence developers, we protect our intellectual property by incorporating clearly defined boundaries in our models», - notes OpenAI.
OpenAI representatives consider it necessary to actively cooperate with the U.S. government to protect their most effective models from attempts by competitors and adversaries to seize American technologies.
In connection with the information about the popularity of the AI model from the Chinese startup DeepSeek, the head of the artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency department at the White House, David Sachs, noted that there is a method in the field of artificial intelligence called «distillation», where one model learns based on another.
It should be noted that the Chinese company DeepSeek has released a free chatbot that has caused a panic among investors in Silicon Valley and has surpassed the American ChatGPT in a number of reasoning tests.
The Chinese artificial intelligence application DeepSeek-R1 has become the most popular free application in the Apple App Store in the U.S., the U.K., and China. It gained significant popularity after its release and debunked the widespread belief that the U.S. is the unparalleled leader in the field of artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that the richest people on Earth have suffered losses of at least $108 billion due to the decline in major indices following the release of the Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek-R1.
