The Ministry of Defense outlined what awaits students who do not pass military training.

Students of higher education institutions should be aware of the new basic military training program (BMTP), which will become mandatory starting September 2025. The BMTP program is developed taking into account the experience of European countries and aims to form the necessary military skills and increase citizens' readiness to defend the state.
The law does not provide for mobilization up to the age of 25, but young men and women aged 18-25 may serve on a contract basis. BMTP consists of a theoretical course (90 hours) and a practical course (210 hours), and the process of passing depends on the student's level of education.
Completion of BMTP allows students to avoid serving under a contract and become preferred candidates for civil service and service in local government bodies. However, to pass the practical part of BMTP, students must be fit in terms of health. During the training, standard weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are used, and medical support is provided in accordance with military medical expertise.
