Head of IAEA Inspected Zaporizhzhya NPP: Burned Cooling Tower Will Have to Be Demolished.


The IAEA mission visited the Zaporizhzhya NPP to check the aftermath of the cooling tower fire. Specialists carefully examined the site and inspected the operation of important systems, including water pumps and fuel storage. The cooling tower is severely damaged and will likely be demolished. This was reported by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
The head of the Agency noted that the IAEA has been continuously working at the Zaporizhzhya NPP for two years.

«During my 5th visit to the site, IAEA experts and I assessed the situation after the August 11 cooling tower fire and ongoing work on water pumps and fuel storage. It is extremely important that the Agency continues its work», – Grossi said.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi personally visited the NPP and emphasized that it is very important for them to continuously monitor the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
According to him, the cooling tower at the Russia-occupied ZNPP was severely damaged by fire last month. He believes that the structure will likely have to be demolished.
