Finland is building a fence on the border with Russia

Finland has completed the first 35 kilometers of the fence on its eastern border with Russia, aimed at curbing the flow of migrants crossing the border through wooded areas. Construction of the 200 km long fence began last year in response to the increasing number of migrants arriving from Russia. Helsinki is known to consider this flow of migrants organized by Moscow.

«The main goal of this fence is to control a large mass of people if they attempt to cross from Russia into Finland,» said the deputy commander of the Southeast Finland Border District.

The fence itself consists of a metal barrier 3.5 meters high, covered with barbed wire, and equipped with cameras, sensors, speakers, and lighting. The Finnish Border Guard expects the construction to be completed by the end of 2026.

Construction of defensive structures in Poland

Poland is also planning to complete the construction of a wall on its border with Belarus to curb the influx of migrants, which, according to Warsaw, is part of a hybrid war organized by Russia. In addition, Poland has begun the construction of defensive fortifications called «Eastern Shield» on its border with Belarus and Russia, a project co-financed by the EU that is expected to be completed by 2028 to counter threats from the east.

Since the beginning of 2024, 63 soldiers have been injured on the Polish-Belarusian border due to aggressive actions by illegal migrants trying to infiltrate Polish territory.

News about the construction of defensive structures on the borders of Finland and Poland indicates a worsening situation with migration flows in Europe and the importance of ensuring the security of the countries. These measures are a response to the large number of migrants attempting to cross the border through wooded areas and highlight the need for enhanced measures to control migration processes.
