Experts explained how American tariffs on cars will affect prices in Ukraine.

The automotive industry is facing tough challenges due to the policy of the new US president. The introduction of a 25% tariff on imported cars and components from Mexico and China by Donald Trump has been postponed until April 2. Such actions may create problems for European automakers.
'These tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico will be a problem for all automakers. Many industry representatives expect that prices for certain car models will rise by 25%, and the adverse impact on prices and availability of cars will be felt almost immediately,' said John Bozzella, head of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents the largest automakers in the US.
Oleg Omelnytskyi, head of Autoconsulting, noted that these changes could affect the Ukrainian market in two ways. Automakers may try to sell off leftover products in other markets, leading to a temporary decrease in prices. However, there could be an overall increased cost of new cars that will hit Ukrainian dealers.
The introduction of new tariffs threatens the established system of automobile production in North America. Many international companies have opened their factories in Mexico and Canada to supply products to the American market. Now they will have to change their production and logistics model, which may take a significant amount of Time.
