Day of Statehood - what Odessa residents know about it.


July 15 is the Day of Statehood of Ukraine, a holiday celebrated on the day of remembrance of Prince Volodymyr the Great and the anniversary of the baptism of Rus. This date emphasizes the historical continuity of the Ukrainian state from the times of Kyivan Rus to the present day. However, despite the official recognition and patriotic accents, for many Ukrainians, this holiday remains somewhat formal.
On July 15, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Statehood. However, according to passersby in the center of Odessa, some people do not even celebrate this date or do not know exactly when it is celebrated. They believe that the holiday lacks elements that would make it more significant for everyone. Some associate July 15 with Prince Volodymyr the Great, but in many cases, this connection is not deeply felt. Only a few respondents understand the significance of this holiday as a new element of national identity.
The Ukrainian holiday of the Day of Statehood has a different perception among the population: for some it remains formal, for others it is somewhat unclear, but there are also those who appreciate it as part of national heritage and identity. National consciousness and the reception of the holiday depend on the level of education and awareness of the historical and cultural context.
